Ministry of homeland security and civil status seychelles

Message from the Minister of Homeland Security and Civil Affairs on the occasion of International Fire Fighters Day

On the occasion of International Firefighters Day, I extend my sincere appreciation and heartfelt gratitude to the firefighters of the Seychelles Fire and Rescue Services Agency for your unwavering dedication, courage and service to our nation.

This year’s theme, “Fit to Serve, Fit for Life”, as chosen by the firefighters of Seychelles, speaks powerfully to the discipline and commitment that define your profession. It reflects not only the physical readiness required to respond to emergencies, but also the mental strength, resilience, and personal responsibility that guide you both on and off duty. Your ability to maintain this balance is a testament to the pride you take in your calling and the standards you uphold every day.

As firefighters, you stand at the frontline of safety and protection, often placing yourselves in harm’s way to safeguard lives, property, and the environment. Your work demands not only skill and bravery, but also constant preparedness and sacrifice. Today, we recognise and honour that commitment, and we pay tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

I also commend your renewed focus on fitness and well-being, highlighting the importance of maintaining balance in both your professional and personal lives. This commitment not only strengthens your operational readiness but also supports your overall quality of life. By embracing this approach, you reinforce the understanding that true service extends beyond duty hours; it is rooted in discipline, resilience and a balanced way of living that sustains you throughout your careers and beyond.

The Ministry of Homeland Security and Civil Affairs remains fully committed to putting in place the necessary mechanisms, programmes and support systems to encourage and enhance this vision of being fit for life. We recognise that readiness is not limited to physical fitness alone, but also includes mental wellness, emotional resilience and the overall well-being of every officer. We will continue to work towards creating an environment that supports our firefighters in remaining strong, healthy and prepared in every aspect of life and service.

On behalf of the Ministry and the people of Seychelles, I thank you for your service, your professionalism and your steadfast commitment to protecting our nation.
